Tokina Cinema 4x5.65 Black Supermist Filter 1/8 – Film-Look Diffusion for Digital Cinema Cameras
The Tokina Cinema 4x5.65 Black Supermist Filter (1/8 Strength) is the ultimate film-look filter for digital cinema cameras, meticulously engineered for filmmakers and cinematographers seeking to elevate their imagery with a refined, cinematic softness. Crafted with precision from dual layers of Schott B270 optical glass, this professional-grade diffusion filter incorporates a micro-layer of ultra-fine black particulates — each particle ranging from slightly smaller to slightly larger than a pixel — to ensure resolution beyond 4K while maintaining precise optical fidelity. The result is a breathtaking balance of clarity and atmosphere: highlights gently bloom, midtones flow seamlessly, and shadow detail softens into a velvety gradient that evokes the warmth of celluloid film. Designed specifically for 4x5.65-inch matte boxes, this filter integrates effortlessly into modern cinema workflows, providing a natural, flattering diffusion that enhances skin tones, reduces the harshness of digital sensors, and minimizes wrinkles and blemishes with Black Supermist technology without sacrificing contrast or sharpness where it counts most.
When using the Black Supermist filter for portraits and landscapes, the difference is instantly noticeable — faces appear smoother, skies gain depth, and transitions between light and shadow take on a painterly quality. Unlike conventional diffusion filters that often wash out the image or introduce unwanted haze, the Tokina Black Supermist 1/8 Strength delivers precise tonal control with an almost imperceptible veil of softness that retains the integrity of high-resolution digital images. Its optical performance exceeds 4K, ensuring that even with heavy color grading or HDR workflows, your footage maintains impeccable consistency. For cinematographers shooting commercials, music videos, or feature films, the Black Supermist 1/8 is the go-to tool for achieving a cinematic look in 4K with the Tokina filter, offering that elusive mix of subtle diffusion and micro-contrast balance that gives modern digital footage the allure of analog cinema.
Every specification underscores Tokina’s attention to detail: a 4×5.65-inch format for universal matte box compatibility, precision-ground Schott B270 glass for color neutrality and maximum durability, and a bonded black particulate layer engineered to exacting standards for uniform diffusion across the frame. The 1/8 strength version is particularly suited for productions demanding realism with a touch of visual sophistication — a perfect choice for close-ups, interviews, and scenic wide shots alike. It’s the benefits of using the Tokina Black Supermist on modern optics that make this filter a standout: by slightly raising black levels and smoothing highlight transitions, it softens the digital edge that can make footage appear clinical or overly sharp. Whether paired with a RED, ARRI, Blackmagic, or Sony Venice camera, it produces an instantly cinematic aesthetic straight out of the box, minimizing post-production touch-ups and saving valuable editing time.
In professional settings, cinematographers trust the Tokina Cinema Black Supermist 1/8 for its reliability, optical excellence, and creative flexibility. Its fine-tuned construction ensures zero color cast, robust mechanical stability, and consistent diffusion across the frame — vital for multi-camera shoots or projects that mix lenses. The filter’s gentle halation around light sources creates organic highlight roll-off without excessive bloom, preserving dynamic range while enriching image texture. Its lightweight 0.53 lb build and compact 8.1 x 5.8 x 1.0-inch profile make it both portable and production-ready. When compared to competing filters, Tokina’s proprietary particulate bonding process offers unmatched precision, giving you the subtle magic that makes digital imagery truly cinematic. For any filmmaker who values artistry as much as accuracy, the Tokina Cinema 4x5.65 Black Supermist Filter (1/8 Strength) isn’t just a tool — it’s the defining edge between ordinary footage and timeless cinema.
Features:
1. Precision-Crafted Film-Look Filter for Digital Cinema Cameras
The Tokina Cinema 4x5.65 Black Supermist Filter (1/8 Strength) is purpose-built for cinematographers who want to bring the organic warmth of film into the digital age. Designed specifically for digital cinema cameras, it softens the harsh, ultra-crisp aesthetic typical of modern sensors without degrading resolution. Its diffusion layer subtly lifts shadow tones and smooths transitions, allowing cinematographers to achieve a balanced, cinematic texture that feels analog, even when shooting in 4K or higher resolutions.
2. Black Supermist Technology for Natural Skin Tones and Flattering Detail
Unlike traditional soft-focus filters that over-haze the image, Tokina’s Black Supermist diffusion layer reduces fine detail precisely where it matters — on skin, hair, and other textured surfaces. This results in smoother, more natural skin tones and minimized wrinkles or blemishes without creating a plastic or blurred look. It’s ideal for close-up portraits, interviews, and beauty shots where perfection needs to feel effortless and authentic.
3. Dual Schott B270 Optical Glass for Superior Clarity and Color Accuracy
Built from two layers of premium Schott B270 optical glass, this filter guarantees exceptional optical clarity, color neutrality, and mechanical stability. The bonded glass construction not only resists warping and temperature shifts but also maintains consistent diffusion across the frame. Unlike coated filters that can degrade over time, Tokina’s optical bonding method permanently encapsulates the black particulate layer, ensuring durability and consistency throughout years of professional use.
4. Ultra-Fine Black Particulate Layer Exceeding 4K Resolution Standards
At the heart of this filter lies an ultra-fine particulate diffusion matrix, with particle sizes engineered to be slightly smaller or larger than a single camera pixel. This precision allows the filter to exceed 4K resolution performance, maintaining crisp edges and fine detail where desired while applying gentle halation and micro-contrast roll-off across highlights. The result is a truly cinematic image — smooth yet detailed, soft yet dimensional.
5. Subtle 1/8 Strength Diffusion for Professional Cinematic Control
The 1/8 strength variant offers the most delicate diffusion in the Black Supermist lineup, perfect for achieving subtle bloom in highlights and reduced contrast without noticeable fogging. It’s the ideal strength for filmmakers who want to maintain control in post-production while still introducing a tactile softness that enhances realism. Whether shooting a sunlit landscape or a dramatic close-up, the 1/8 strength filter delivers a nuanced cinematic polish that feels natural and intentional.
6. Achieving a Cinematic Look in 4K with Modern Digital Cameras
Digital sensors can often produce footage that feels overly clinical or sterile. The Tokina Black Supermist Filter restores a sense of organic visual depth by softening digital edges, reducing harsh micro-contrast, and giving highlights a subtle bloom reminiscent of motion picture film. Its optical neutrality ensures compatibility with modern cinema cameras like ARRI, RED, Sony Venice, Canon C-series, and Blackmagic URSA, helping filmmakers achieve a filmic tone right out of camera.
7. Professional 4x5.65" Cinema Format for Matte Box Integration
Engineered for professional use, this filter adheres to the industry-standard 4x5.65" size, ensuring seamless compatibility with popular matte boxes from ARRI, Tilta, Bright Tangerine, and others. The flat, non-threaded glass construction allows for fast swapping between filters during production. This makes it a go-to tool for directors of photography and camera assistants working on demanding film sets where flexibility and precision matter most.
8. Consistent Optical Performance Across the Frame
Every Tokina Black Supermist filter undergoes strict quality control to ensure uniform diffusion and no color shift across the entire frame. This consistency is crucial for multi-camera setups and professional color grading workflows, allowing editors and colorists to maintain seamless continuity from shot to shot. The optical design avoids vignetting or uneven diffusion, even on wide-angle lenses, preserving image integrity from edge to edge.
9. Ideal for Portraits, Landscapes, and Creative Storytelling
When using the Black Supermist filter for portraits and landscapes, cinematographers can capture more emotive and cinematic imagery. In portraits, it gently lifts facial highlights and reduces imperfections, while in landscapes, it adds atmosphere by softening the harsh contrast between sky and ground. This versatility makes it equally effective for narrative filmmaking, music videos, or commercial cinematography — any project that demands emotional resonance and visual sophistication.
10. Built to Withstand Professional Production Environments
The filter’s robust build and optical stability make it suitable for professional-grade production conditions. It’s resistant to humidity, temperature fluctuations, and repeated handling — essential for location shoots. Each Tokina Cinema filter is designed to withstand daily rigors without delamination or performance loss, maintaining pristine optical performance throughout its lifespan.
11. Minimal Post-Production Required for Cinematic Results
One of the key benefits of using the Tokina Black Supermist on modern optics is its ability to create a cinematic tone directly in-camera, significantly reducing the need for heavy post-production diffusion or skin retouching. This saves valuable time during editing and color grading while preserving the natural depth and dynamic range of the original footage. The filter essentially delivers a “baked-in” cinematic character that elevates your production from the first frame.
12. The Professional’s Choice for Realistic Filmic Expression
For cinematographers striving for a visual identity that merges technical precision with emotional impact, the Tokina Cinema 4x5.65 Black Supermist Filter (1/8) represents a perfect equilibrium. Its optical excellence, subtle diffusion, and robust construction make it a staple tool on professional sets worldwide. It is so nice to see a small family owned shop instead of these big box stores. I generally felt cared about when getting my blackmagic cinema camera. Love the quality of the images and how easy it is to use.

This small business has the best customer service HANDS DOWN!!
Lucas worked with me diligently to help me find a camera that would fit my needs and that would arrive in time for my trip. I take photos, but wanted a smaller, more compact camera to take with me when traveling. He even reached out to other camera experts to make sure he was giving me the best advice for the equipment that would accommodate my needs!
Lucas was patient with me and was in constant contact with the camera supplier to keep me updated on the status of my order and when the items would be ready for shipment. Once my order arrived to the store, it was in my hands in less than 2 days. I would give 10 stars to this business if I could!!
SHOP SMALL! :)
AMAZING SERVICE!
In short: I was able to receive the black colorway below retail and free next day shipping with the promos that they offered for being a new camera web-shop based from AZ.
Long story: Lucas who is prolly the only rep for the company cuz they're so small is the best dude ever. Since i ordered he responded on emails and updates quicker than some of my friends texting me back about where am at on the list as people just kept cancelling their order. I went from 9th place in line to 4th place in line for the silver. And he hit me up saying that they were still waiting on Fuji to send shipping updates and that no company knows what they get on their weekly fuji shipments other than from a 24 hour window of receiving shipping details.
He then noted that there were two black X100Vs available that were reserved to customers who ordered but have not confirmed. I said if they dont confirm please let me know and ill take that instead of the silver. The next day he hits me saying the customer said to cancel and he sent me an invoice. I ordered accessories for the camera on amazon right after and my package for the camera came before my amazon package. Lucas was super nice and transparent about everything. Dope experience from NUZIRA.
Lucas was so incredibly helpful!!! I’ve genuinely never had better customer service. They offered to stay late so I could get my order and were so patient with all my questions. I would give them 10 stars if I could.

NUZIRA MADE MY MONTH!
I was a little concerned when I first came across this small business but I am so so thankful I di! They have the NICESt staff and customer service. I have been on the waitlist for this camera for a few months now so when Lucas called saying they had it back in stock I was so freaking excited! Made my whole month. This camera absolutely lives up to the hype. I love how lightweight it is. I can pop it into any bag and head out the door. the images are crisp, high quality, and stunning. I use film sim and not film sim. The film simulations are nearly identical to real film. I have another fuji camera that does film sim but it can't even be compared to this one. I love my Fujifilm X100v so much! Amazing camera! Thanks you Nuzira!
